Time: 8:00 PM
Address: 410 West Geer St, Durham, NC
Description: Queer and Trans Dance Wave is a non-judgmental creative space for queer, trans, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, and gender-expansive folks to practice creative self-expression and embodied liberation in community. We co-create a dance floor intentionally free from verbal conversation, alcohol and cell phones to support a more fully embodied experience. Dance Waves start slowly, build to a peak and then return to stillness. The curated music is woven in this 75-minute wave format to help you get out of your head and into your body.
Accessibility Information: Sliding scale $5-25* (suggested $15)
*No one turned away for lack of funds
Masking policy: Masking is optional and highly encouraged. If you feel sick in any way, please stay home and join us next time. If you have been in large crowds recently, we ask that you test before coming to the event.
We encourage you to move at the pace that supports your well-being, in ways that feel best to your system, and to honor yourself and others by always seeking consent in your interactions.
We build culture through embodied community practices of awareness, consent, respect and participation. All ways of dress, appearance, and dance are welcome so long as this self expression does not target or infringe upon the sovereignty of another person or group of people.

Tango & Chill

Date: March 16, 2025
Time: 3:00 PM
Address: Culture Mill Lab, 1612 Jordan Dr. Saxapahaw, NC
Description: COMING SOON: Culture Mill’s Tango & Chill quarterly workshop
This workshop series expands community through playful movement practice. To help us expand our community, please consider bringing a friend!
No experience, no partner necessary!
Through Argentine Tango, we invite you to discover a practice that has deeply informed Culture Mill’s leadership and followership style. We will start with a gentle warm-up that will bring awareness to the body and a sense of availability, finding balance and easefulness in basic exercises of tango alone and in connection to a partner. As you are guided through this embodied experience, you will also learn the basic principles of tango such as leading, following, deep listening, playfulness, centeredness, togetherness away from sameness, moment to moment presence, and posture that have helped shape Culture Mill’s ethos.
Tango & Chill is donation-based (free for all Patreon sustainers and current supporters) — Pay what you wish via Venmo, PayPal or cash.

Group Shake
Type: Classes/Workshop
Date: Saturday, March 21
Time: 7:00 PM Doors at 6:45
Description: Group Shake is a collective solo durational practice. We come together to tend to our own bodies, in community. It offers an alternative to ecstatic dance for those interested in movement without touch or interaction with others. We shake and move to music over an extended period, focusing on shaking and rocking, allowing the body to move naturally—free from concerns about appearance, skill, or rhythm. While it may resemble dancing, the true intention is to release tension and energy. This practice promotes circulation, supports the nervous system, enhances overall health, and fosters a sense of community.
