Group Shake
Upcoming
Long Shake (90 min) at Heartward Sanctuary, May 17 2:00-4:00pm
Join us for the final Shake of the season before we take a break! This Shake will take place in the beautiful and beloved Heartward Sanctuary dance barn. Please note that this is not a temperature-controlled space. It has a composting toilet, a beautiful sprung floor, and spacious grounds to walk if you feel called to explore nature.
The entry fee is on a sliding scale of $25–50. There are two work-trade options available for free entry—one for arriving early to help set up and one for staying a little after to help tend to the space. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Please register ahead of time so we know to expect you!
Take a moment to review the directions on the Heartward Sanctuary site, linked on the registration page below. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
This is a long Shake—wear layers and comfortable clothing.

Group Shake as Mutual Aid: A Rhizomatic Practice of Care
This document is a starting point—an invitation to explore how somatic and movement-based practices like Group Shake might belong in and support mutual aid, political organizing, caregiving, and community work.
Tending to the body—through movement, stillness, and attuned presence—is not separate from care work. In a time of collective exhaustion, creating shared spaces that support nervous system regulation, autonomy, and embodied connection feels increasingly urgent. This conversation offers entry points into what kinds of clear, grounded containers can hold both individual agency and collective attunement—within, alongside, and in service of social and political efforts.
This is a call to collaboratively shape a thought piece. Please add your perspectives, frameworks, and lived experiences! Here are some questions that might help you get started: How can somatic practices function as mutual aid? What structures can hold both freedom and focus? How do we create spaces of support for those doing the work—organizers, caregivers, mutual aid workers, and all those seeking grounded, shared presence?
Movement Space in the Triangle
This spreadsheet is an open source resource of spaces in the NC Triangle for movement practitioners and artists. Please add spaces that you have used for personal practice, classes, workshops, or performances.
The goal of this resource is to connect movers to space to keep us moving, creating, teaching, and growing.
